The trailer for Pictures of Superheroes has been making the rounds on the internet and getting some press. Don Simpson at Film School Rejects says:

…if I was a praying man, I would be praying that Don Swaynos’ Pictures of Superheroes and Mark Potts and Cole Selix’s Cinema Six will get accepted into SXSW 2012, because if I have to wait much longer to see either of those films I am going to freakin’ explode!

In addition, The Austin Chronicle calls me a superhero and says they love me and Slackerwood discusses the trailer and the premiere of Six Hundred and Forty-One Slates.

THE STATESMAN LOOKS AT UPCOMING TEXAS FILMS

I’ve been doing a poor job of posting project updates on here, fortunately The Austin American Statesman published a list of Texas films currently in production which includes two of the films I’m currently working on. The article discusses Jollyville Pictures’ Pictures of Superheroes (which I wrote, directed, produced, and edited) and Mark Potts and Cole Selix’s A Splice of Life (pictured above, which I produced and edited).

I’m currently directing a feature-length comedy called Pictures of Superheroes. It stars Kerri Lendo, Shannon McCormick, and John Merriman and is being produced by Tate English and Kelly Williams. The film’s already received some press from Bad Lit so hopefully it will be good. JollyvillePictures.com is now online and so is Tate English’s critically-acclaimed, award-winning short film The Ballad of Friday and June (which I produced and edited). Since being posted, the film has receive some nice press from Bad Lit and Film Festival Secrets.

JollyvillePictures.com also features lots of other work from Tate English, Dano Johnson, and myself including our new web-series Love, Lies, & Video Files.

The Austin Chronicle’s Marc Savlov recently wrote an article about the “loosely knit” filmmaking collective Jollyville Pictures, to which I belong. Savlov mainly talks about The Ballad of Friday and June, calling it “one of the most exquisite short films to come out of Austin in ages” adding “you’ve never seen anything quite like (it)” and “At a tight nine minutes, Friday and June eloquently articulates, with equal parts humor and heartache, an unnameable cri de coeur that nevertheless should be instantly recognizable to anyone who’s ever chased an artistic dream, stumbled, got back up, and grabbed hold even harder than before. It’s that good.”

That article also talks about Year at Danger (calling it “immensely powerful”), Collection Agency Films, and the music video for Zombie a Go Go.

The Ballad of Friday and June Wins “Best Short Film” at Indie Memphis

Tate English’s The Ballad of Friday and June won “Best Short Film” at the Indie Memphis Film Festival this weekend. The film will be screening at the Austin Film Festival on October 24th.

Jollyville Pictures’ The Ballad of Friday and June continues its “World Tour of America’s Southern States,” playing Indie Memphis on October 11th and the Austin Film Festival on October 24th. I’ll be attending both festivals along with director Tate English and speaking on a panel, “Storytelling Through Editing,” at the Austin Film Festival on October 25th.

Tate English’s short film The Ballad of Friday and June is going to have its world premiere at the Sidewalk Moving Picture Festival in Birmingham, Alabama on Saturday, September 26th, and then play the next day at the Charlotte Film Festival in Charlotte, North Carolina.
